Movie:  The Usual Suspects (1995)  This is one of my all-time favorite movies.  While the whole cast, which features the fabulous performances of Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Kevin Pollack, Pete Posthlewaite, Kevin Spacey, Benicio Del Toro and Giancarlo Esposito, is awesome, Kevin Spacey and Chazz Palminteri are the real stars.

This is one of those movies where you say “what the f***” for about five minutes after the movie ends, then you rewind and start watching all over again to see what you missed, and how.  Now, that’s not because the filmmakers/screenwriters goofed and didn’t give you enough clues.  You have clues aplenty, and on your second viewing you’ll be smacking your head in comprehension.  Hell, I’ve probably seen this one at least fifteen times, and I *still* find nuances and tiny clues that I missed (or forgot) in previous viewings.  It also features probably one of the funniest scenes I think I’ve ever seen…it takes place as “the usual suspects” are pulled in, one at a time, for a truck heist, and placed together, first for a lineup, then for questioning.  Pollack and Del Toro’s characters are a freakin’ hoot.

I can’t recommend this movie enough, tho be warned, it is exceedingly violent.  Yeah, the violence serves the end purpose, but it’s out there nonetheless.  If you want to watch something truly mind bending that’ll stay with you long after the last frame flickers by, then rent this one today!

Oh, and as an additional bennie for ya…Kevin Spacey won his first Oscar in this movie, and it also won for Writing (Best Original Screenplay)
